Sark has no airport and no cars — the only way in is by sea, usually via Guernsey. It sounds like a faff, but it’s genuinely straightforward once you know the steps. Here’s how to get here.
Step 1: Get to Guernsey
Most people reach Guernsey either by air or by ferry from the UK or France:
- By air — regular flights to Guernsey Airport (GCI) from various UK and European airports, with Aurigny and Blue Islands among the main operators.
- By sea — Condor Ferries run fast ferry crossings to Guernsey from Portsmouth and Poole, and from St Malo in France.
Step 2: Ferry from Guernsey to Sark
From St Peter Port in Guernsey, the Isle of Sark Shipping Company runs the passenger ferry over to Sark. The crossing takes around 45–55 minutes, with several sailings a day in peak season (May–September). It’s a lovely trip in its own right — worth being out on deck for.
Once you’re on Sark
No cars are allowed on the island, so you’ll walk, cycle, or take a horse-drawn carriage to get around. Luggage can usually be arranged with your accommodation or transported up from the harbour by tractor. Pack reasonably light if you can!
