Do I need to be there for the whole week?
No, not at all. Come for a couple of days or the whole stretch, whatever works for you and your group. We’d love for you to be able to join us for the event on Friday 3rd August, but this is totally your holiday to plan.
Is this an expensive holiday?
It’s not a cheap ‘staycation’ option – and with the climate being not that far from what the UK has, you can certainly get guaranteed sunshine in the Med for the same price. However, it’s a great rest from a heatwave… All ‘Definitely’ activities will be accessible and there are plenty of accommodation options to suit all budgets.
What should I pack?
Pack as thought you’re going to Wales. Comfortable walking shoes, light layers (island weather changes fast), swimwear, and a torch for nighttime as there is no street lighting. Bug spray and suncream are also essential. We find ourselves putting our phones away for much longer than we would on the mainland so have a digital cameras and radios for communications to reinforce this.
What are the amenities like?
There are only a few essential shops, if self catering it’s worth popping to M&S or Co-Op in Guernsey on your way over for fresh fruit and veg but the Food Stop has a great selection of the basics. There’s also Mon Plaisir which offers more food options, other than that there are a couple of shops selling trinkets and coffee, and Sark Alchemy (drug laws are… different) will see you right for any alternative fun should that be your vibe.
With the island being slightly tricky to get to – people often ask about medical care. There are community first responders who will attend in an emergency (999 call) and the Flying Christie off island to Guernsey hospital care. There is also a resident doctor. I wouldn’t consider the provision any less than what you would expect on the mainland.
